RGT Rating
The Moondrop Block is a budget TWS aimed at users who prefer the non-intrusive feel of a traditional flat-head earbud design. While it includes a dedicated low-latency Game Mode, its unique form factor and resulting sound characteristics make it a less ideal choice for critical, competitive gaming compared to in-ear monitors (IEMs) or TWS with a better seal.
Imaging and Soundstage: 3/5
The semi-open/flat-head design of the Block makes achieving accurate seal and consistent sound placement very challenging. This results in an inherently vague soundstage and imaging. While the dedicated Game Mode provides fast audio, the technical ability to precisely pinpoint sound sources in competitive FPS games is significantly limited.
Sound Signature: Flat Vocals + Muddy Bass
The sound is generally described as warm and laid-back.
Bass: The open-fit naturally causes a significant loss of deep sub-bass. The mid-bass can be boomy and muddy due to leakage and the DSP tuning trying to compensate.
Mids/Vocals: Vocals tend to sound flat, thin, or veiled, lacking the richness and detail found in Moondrop's in-ear models. This makes picking out some crucial mid-range game cues (like weapon reloads) difficult.
Comfort: 3/5
The primary appeal is the flat-head design, which avoids insertion into the ear canal, making them very comfortable for those who suffer from ear fatigue with IEMs. However, the fit is highly dependent on ear shape, and for many, they can feel loose and insecure.
Versatility: 3/5
The Block offers a low-latency mode and a comfortable fit for casual use, but its compromises in imaging and sound quality limit its utility for critical music listening or high-stakes competitive gaming. It is best suited for users prioritizing comfort and low-latency for movies or casual games.
Potential Drawbacks:
Some users might find the lack of a very large soundstage noticeable or also the lack of bass not as nice for immersion during gaming.
