RGT Rating
The Moondrop Space Travel 2 (ST2) is a versatile True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbud that uses a specific 55ms Low-Latency Game Mode to bridge the gap between quality audio and playability. It’s an exceptional budget option that punches above its weight for casual use but has limitations for serious competitive gaming.
Imaging and Soundstage: 3.5v/5
The imaging is surprisingly strong and precise for a budget TWS. The clarity allows for effective sound source localization, making it easier to pinpoint enemies or environmental cues. The soundstage is not expansive or "out-of-your-head," but the separation of elements is clean, preventing audio cues from becoming muddy, which is crucial for awareness.
Sound Signature: Neutral with a slight warmth and smooth treble
The sound is tuned for a pleasing, cohesive audio experience, meaning it avoids harsh, fatiguing treble often found in cheaper sets. The bass is controlled, adding a pleasant warmth rather than an overwhelming boom, ensuring that key mid-range sounds (like voices and footsteps) remain clear.
Comfort: 3.5/5
The ST2 features a shallow-fit design, which is excellent for most users, particularly those who struggle with deep-insertion IEMs. They are lightweight and suitable for longer sessions (2-4 hours). The fit is generally secure and comfortable, though the specific shape of the outer shell may cause some discomfort after several hours for certain ear shapes.
Versatility: 4.5/5
This is the ST2's greatest strength. It functions as an affordable hi-fi earbud for music, features a dedicated low-latency mode for games, and includes decent wide-band ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) for commutes. The inclusion of the Moondrop Link App with customizable EQ settings further enhances its versatility across different listening scenarios.
Potential Drawbacks:
Competitive Latency Limit: While 55ms is good for TWS, it is still noticeable in fast-paced competitive FPS or rhythm games where sub-20ms is preferred.
Manual Game Mode: The earbuds default to the high-latency "Music Mode" upon reconnection, requiring the user to manually switch back to Game Mode (usually via a four-tap command) every time they start playing.
ANC Performance: The ANC is present and functional, but it is typically only effective against lower-frequency, consistent noise (like a fan or bus engine) and is outperformed by mid-range and premium TWS options.
